The Guggenheim Museum started as a museum for the private collection of Solomon R. Guggenheim. Construction started in 1956 and the museum opened in New York on October 21, 1959. Architect Frank Lloyd Wright died six months before the opening. Since 2019, the museum has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site as part and example of Frank Lloyd Wright’s 20th-century architecture.
Artis Zoo, Amsterdam
Artis is the Amsterdam zoo and the oldest zoo in the Netherlands.
Artis, officially the Royal Zoological Society Natura Artis Magistra (“Nature is the teacher of art”), was founded in 1838 by G.F. Westerman, J.W.H. Werlemann and J.J. Wijsmuller founded. Artis has set itself the goal of stimulating love and care for nature. The park has 27 monumental buildings that largely date from the nineteenth century.
For Artis Zoo in Amsterdam I designed a pattern of Jaguars for a backpack, toilet bag, pencil case and wallets. This to celebrate the coming of two new Jaguar Cubs born as a result of a breeding program. The products are made from recycled PET bottles and therefore not only strong but also environmentally friendly.
The Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam is one of the most important museums in the Netherlands. The collection offers an overview of Dutch art and history, including works by 17th-century Dutch masters such as Rembrandt, Vermeer and Hals. The museum has been located in the Rijksmuseum building since 1885, designed by the Dutch architect Pierre Cuypers.
I did not dare to “cut” into this masterpiece, so I added my own layer!
